Fights are a type of friendship problem in Tomodachi Collection and Tomodachi Life. Depending on the result, it could possibly break a friendship.

Start of the Fight[]

The system that determines fights is completely random. Nothing the player does before that will determine when two Miis will fight; their relationship levels also have nothing to do with the chance of fights. It is also impossible to pre-determine if a fight will be a standard or huge fight. Two Miis that are married have a higher chance of fighting with each other than with other Miis, unless they are taking care of a baby.[citation needed]

Depending on the island population, up to three fights will occur randomly. Fights cannot be prevented nor can the causes of the fight be tracked down under any circumstances. Other than this, if the player sees two Miis arguing in Mii Apartments, they will more likely start a fight if both Miis show angry reactions. Shifting to another apartment or entering the arguing Mii's apartment will instantly start the fight.

Dealing with the Fight[]

Layton Fight

A fight taking place in Tomodachi Life.

In an angry Mii's apartment, there will be small puffs of smoke with punching sounds coming out of their head. The player must calm them down with certain gifts, such as the bath set, the swing, or the music box. Giving the Mii food, clothing, or hats that generates a caption "(s)he really liked it!" or higher will also calm them down.

Once the Mii is calmed down, then they will go to the apartment of their friend to apologize. If the friend accepts the apology, then they will also apologize. If the friend gets angry and rejects the apology, then the previously calm Mii will become depressed.

If one of the Miis gets erased, the fight will end.

After the Fight[]

Miis apologizing

A friend apologizing to the Mii they had a fight with in Tomodachi Life.

In a depressed Mii's apartment, the player can click on the Mii's thought bubble twice to see a flashback of the fight, depicting the two Miis throwing random treasures at each other while yelling insults. In Life, there might also be a scene of the two Miis tugging on a random item or a teddy bear with angry expressions. A transcript for what the Miis can say can be found here.

In Life, there is a chance that the Mii who rejected their friend's apology may regret their fight afterwards. If the friend's name is still on the Mii's relationship chart under "Friend (Fight)" for a long period of time, the asking Mii may say they are sick of fighting and want to make it right. Once accepted, there will be a cutscene where the Mii visits their sad friend. They apologize back with the previously sad Mii no longer being depressed, turning their head happily and saying "Sure", followed by them jumping and dancing together. After they apologize back, the fight will become resolved and Miis will return to being friends. Even once the apology is accepted, there is a chance of them fighting again.

If the fight fails to be resolved, or the Mii does not want to apologize back, both Miis will be removed from each other's relationship charts, setting their relationships back to permanent acquaintances until they decide to become friends again. If this occurs to two dating or married Miis, this could lead to an immediate breakup request, unless either of them wants to make up.

Huge Fights[]

"[Mii] and I had a huge fight that wasn't my fault at all. I'm so mad!"
— Mii in a huge fight, Tomodachi Life (US)
FireyAura

A Mii with a flaming aura, depicting a huge fight.

Huge fights (also known as hostile fights) involve two Miis who are furious with each other. The Mii will appear to have a fiery aura, with heavy metal music playing in the background. Unlike a regular fight, the player cannot do anything to calm the fighting Miis down, as the Mii is too angry to apologize to the friend they fought with. They are 90% rarer than normal fights.

The only one of 2 ways to stop a huge fight is to find a random friend of both Miis. This third Mii will explain that two of their friends had a fight and will not make up. If the player accepts, a cut-scene featuring the fighting Miis are in the third Mii's apartment will begin. The third Mii then tries to get the two fighters to make up. If they succeed, the two Miis will make up by waving at each other, then smile and dance while the friend Mii applauds happily as a happy jingle plays. If they fail, the two Miis will continue to fight as the huge fight theme resumes, with the third friend Mii frowning for cover, shaking their head in sadness as the two fighting Miis will never become friends again. If they are dating or married, this will lead to an immediate break-up request, but it is still possible for them to make up.

Miis that have been in a standard fight long enough cannot enter a huge fight if the fight goes on long enough, and vice-versa.

Another Way to stop a huge fight is erasing one of the Miis involved in the huge fight (not the third Mii.), It will cause an Immediete end, and the flaming aura will disappear in the apartment of the Mii who did not get deleted. Even though this is possible, you will not get any rewards.

Trivia[]

  • When a third Mii attempts to resolve a huge fight, the two Miis that would normally be represented with the flaming aura are shown with puffs of smoke instead, as if the Miis had a normal fight. This possibly makes the Miis more noticeable, as the fiery auras obstruct their sides and back.
  • The player can tell if the apology is going to be accepted or rejected through the two Miis' relationship. If one of them have a low enough status ("Getting Along OK" or lower), they will most likely be rejected, even if the other Mii has a high level. If one of them has "Best bud", there is a very small chance they will be rejected. In case of a huge fight, if either Mii has low status, there is a big chance the fight will fail to be resolved.
  • Most Miis that are fighting have orange status. This happens to almost all Miis that get into fights off-screen, even couples with low relationships.
  • Miis will not fight with their best friend (if they have one), parents, or siblings. If two married Miis are caring for a child, they will not fight, but can still fight with other Miis when taking care of a baby.
  • Normally, there is a pause after the Mii apologizes to their friend; otherwise, the other Mii will immediately answer.
  • It is possible for a fight to occur when a Mii is asleep. The same goes for the third Mii when a huge fight occurs.
  • If the player witnesses a fight outside an apartment and chooses to enter, the Miis will not stop and face the camera. It will take longer to enter the apartment.
  • When a Mii wants to forgive after previously being rejected, the Mii that is making up will act Easygoing while the Mii that used to be in sadness will act Outgoing regardless of their actual personalities.
  • It is possible for an angry Mii to leave their apartment (other than throwing junk at the other Mii's apartment and going to their house after they are married). A Mii in a fight can still interrupt love confession. If the Mii being confessed chooses the Mii in a fight and the player agrees, the angry and target Mii will be in the latter's apartment staring at each other lovingly. No smoke will come out of the angry Mii's head. After the player notices the two Miis love gazing, the angry Mii will have the puffs of smoke and leave the apartment. Unlike a fight, the angry Mii will wave back at their sweetheart.
  • It is possible for the Mii who previously rejected the apology to apologize when the target Mii is not sad anymore. When this happens, there will be a raincloud over the latter in the cutscene, despite them not being sad.
  • If a married couple gets into a huge fight and no Mii tries to resolve the fight, they will get divorced off-screen, but neither Mii is sad the next time they are visited after the fight. If the Miis are children who used an Age-o-matic to get married, the message about the Age-o-matic wearing off is not shown.
  • A Mii, who is in a huge fight, can be given gifts that calm them down in regular fights, but does not calm down or gain any happiness by using it, making the items pointless. They can still gain happiness by eating food, receiving new clothes, or a new apartment.
  • If the same copy of the game is played on another system or a Mii gets erased, the fight ends.
  • In very rare cases, it is possible for a married couple to get into a failed fight off-screen after not playing the game for a while, even if their relationship is "Soul mates". When this happens, both of the Miis usually want to divorce. Closing the game without saving and starting it back up will not change the outcome.
  • A glitch can occur during a huge fight where there is no third Mii to calm down the two fighting Miis. It is unknown what causes this glitch, but it is possible that it occurs due to the third Mii being involved in their own fight.
  • Miis that are in fights cannot work in stores or use level up gifts except for the punching bag. They also refuse to use most gifts, except for the Bath Set, Music Box, Swing and Travel Ticket.
  • The teddy bear that the Miis are fighting with has a random islander's face. It will be a male teddy bear, even if the islander face is female.
  • In the Japanese version, during fight flashbacks, a Mii may insult the other's mother.
