A Mii with a problem in Tomodachi Collection.

Problems are the player's main interaction with their Miis. There are five types of problems a Mii can have: normal, friendship-related, love-related, sadness, and playful. They are represented by black, orange, pink, blue, and green icons respectively.

When the player goes into an apartment with a problem, there will be different music for each problem. New events and locations will be unlocked based on how many problems they have solved.

The Miis will be seen with pink hearts containing question marks, or gray clouds with Japanese onomatopoeia moya-moya in Tomodachi Collection and Japanese version of Life floating around them. The music will change upon entering their apartment, but this does not happen when Miis are wondering if a friend likes them.

TC Sadness Sadness Sadness Problems[]

Main article: Sadness

Sadness Problems occur when a Mii's heart has broken. When this happens, their status instantly changes from "happiness" to "sadness". With this new sadness bar, the Mii cannot level anymore or earn any money until they have been cheered up. These events happen after a love confession has been rejected, failing to apologize after a fight, if the player tells not to confess their love, or they breakup/divorce.

It is represented by a blue icon with a rain cloud. In Tomodachi Collection, it is instead represented by a purple (blue in Tomodachi Collection: New Life) icon with an ember shape. Giving a Mii a travel ticket or their all-time favorite food instantly removes sadness.

Type Description Solution
Make up rejected The Mii has been rejected while trying to make up with a friend. Get rid of the sadness.
Rejected confession The Mii has been rejected by their friend during a Confession.
Confession refusal The player has told the Mii to not confess their love.
Divorce/breakup Two Miis ended their romantic relationship. Get rid of the sadness for both Miis, although the second Mii sometimes will not become sad.
Rejected by ex-sweetheart/spouse The Mii has been rejected by their ex-sweetheart or former spouse. Get rid of the sadness.

TC Playful Playful Playful Problems[]

Main article: Islander Mini-Games

The Mii will hop happily (or move their arm in a beckoning fashion in Tomodachi Collection and the Japanese version of Life) until entering their apartment, where they will immediately ask the player to play a game. If the player rejects, they may be asked to play later. These are represented by a green icon with small marks.

Trivia[]

  • The only problems that show up if the player has yet to answer all of their phone calls are fights and wanting to play a game.
  • Upon selecting a place for the date problem, the Mii with the problem sometimes does not feel like going and remain in their apartments. This happens if the place selected already has a lot of Miis there; otherwise their partner might be in a fight, sadness, or have a baby problem.
  • The problems recorded in the apartment office stop at 9,999. A special breaking newscast is occurred when the cap is reached.
