Miitomo was a life-simulation game released for mobile devices, and a spin-off to the Tomodachi series. The player could create their own Mii and socialize with other players, or import up to 104 other Miis as "Sidekick Miis". A Nintendo ID was required to start the game. The app was shut down on May 9, 2018 due to lack of active users.

Gameplay[]

Question of the Day

A Mii asking the player a question of the day.

Much like the main Tomodachi games, the player created Miis that can be customized in a way they like, including appearance, personality, and voice. The player could also socialize with other players, either through QR Codes, mutual social media friends including Facebook and Twitter, or a connection with nearby ones.

The player could interact with the Miis they import and give them items in a way they like, such as clothes. If a certain item is not available in the clothes shop, the user had to play a mini-game known as Miitomo Drop, featuring them dropping imported Miis to land in a certain slot, allowing users to receive a prize based on what is in that slot.

Items[]

In contrast to the numerous items featured in the main series, Miitomo features significantly lower items to use.

Differences from the main Tomodachi Series[]

  • Miitomo was developed by Nintendo's EPD branch while the other Tomodachi games were made by Nintendo's SPD branch.
  • The Buddy and Free Spirit personalities were respectively changed to Confidant and Individualist.
  • Although the Mii's idle and walking poses were kept from the main series, an Easygoing Mii's poses are somewhat altered. Their arms are straight as they bob their head and arms back and forth, much like in Collection and the Japanese release of Life.
  • Depending on their personality, the Miis have different walking sounds.
  • Any sidekick Miis the player imports could not interact with each other, meaning friendships, fights, confessions, marriages, and babies are not included.
  • When a friend came to visit the user's Mii, they would immediately start talking to each other and keep talking until the player finishes talking to the visitor.
  • The Mii's talking sound when a visitor came was in an unintelligible gibberish, with its pitch depending on the Mii's voice.
  • Clothing was sold in different articles rather than one preset outfit.
  • Miis had a more expressions than in the main series, and could change their mood mid-sentence depending on what is being talked about.
  • The Mii's talking animations were static and stay the same. Easygoing, Outgoing, and Confident Miis will shake their heads and arms while Independent Miis keep their usual thinking poses.
  • An Independent Mii's idle pose was improved slightly, with the hand on their chin sticking out farther.
  • There were two separate levels, one for popularity and the other for style. The former went up by interacting with friends, while the latter increased by buying and changing clothes. Happiness levels were not featured in the game.
  • Upon visiting a friend or if someone came to visit, the music changed depending on the friends' personality:
    • A slow relaxed theme plays for Easygoing Miis.
    • A cheerful Latin theme for Outgoing Miis.
    • A techno theme for Confident Miis.
    • A quiet, futuristic theme for Independent Miis.
  • The player could not change their birthday once it had been set.
  • Miis could not be given first names and last names.
