When Miis become friends, sweethearts, spouses, etc., their relationship statuses can be displayed by pressing L or R while inside their apartment. Each statuses have different colors, which range from dark green (highest), green, yellow green, yellow, red, purple, and blue (lowest). The higher a Mii's status is with another Mii, the more likely they will become best friends, confess their feelings, propose, or want to have a baby. On the other hand, the lower a Mii's status is with another Mii, the more likely they will get in fight and/or break up. Sometimes they will have a fight when the Mii's relationship remains high with each other.

Occasionally, a Mii will ask the player what they the about the Mii's relationship with another Mii. The player can tell them that they are either great together, okay together, or incompatible. Depending on the option chosen, the relationship status will either go up, stay the same, or go down.

When Miis are hanging out in an apartment together, they may engage in conversations. If their conversation does not go well, it may become an argument which will lower their relationship level. If the Miis don't apologize their relationship status will have a question mark next to it and the player may have to resolve a fight between the two. If the player fails to resolve a fight then they can potentially be removed from each other's respective relationship lists and may revert back to acquaintances.
Ocassionally, a Mii will ask the player what he or she thinks about the Mii's relationship with another Mii. If the player chooses the first option, the status will go up, if the second option is chosen, the status will remain steady, and if the third option is chosen, the status will go down.

Other times, if a conversation goes well, the prompt "[Mii 1] and [Mii 2] just became best friends!" may appear, but if the two are already best friends, it can say "[Mii 1] and [Mii 2] just became friends."
Rarely, Mii states that they're worried about their relationship with their current date and ask if they still like them. This is similar to the problem about what players think about two mii's relationship but different because the choices say different things. Like the other problem - if you choose the first statement the relationship level will go up if you choose the second it will stay the same if the third the relationship level will go down all the way to not getting along. This normally happens at getting along OK or lower.

If two Miis are hanging out in an apartment, very occasionally will they engage in an argument, which will lower the relationship level. When two Miis have yet to apologise, their relationship status will appear with a question mark. Two Miis not seeing each other often also leads to possible drops in relationships. If the conversation goes well, the prompt "[Mii 1] and [Mii 2] just became best friends!" may appear, but if the two are already best friends, it can say "[Mii 1] and [Mii 2] just became friends." If they're just friends, they could drop down to acquaintances, where they don't show up on the relationships list. If the Miis fight and it fails to be resolved, they are removed from each other's respective relationship lists, and they revert back to acquaintances.

There are 5 categories of statuses, each colour saying something different about the relationship; they are Friends/Family/Siblings, Best Friend, Sweetheart, Spouse, and Ex-Sweethearts/Ex-Spouses. The yellow status is the default status in most cases; the only exception is when a husband and wife divorce, in which case the current statuses of both Miis will change to match the Ex-Spouses category (ex. a Mii at "Soul mate" status will change to "Still friends", "Not getting along" would change to "Want to forget", etc.)

Relationships

An example of relationship statuses in Tomodachi Life that belongs to a grown-up child born from two other mii characters.

When Miis become friends, sweethearts, spouses, etc., their relationship statuses can be displayed by pressing L or R while inside their apartment. Different statuses have different colors, which range from dark green (highest), green, yellow green, yellow, red, purple, and blue (lowest). The higher a Mii's status is with another Mii, the more likely they will become best friends, confess their feelings, propose, or want to have a baby. On the other hand, the lower a Mii's status is with another Mii, the more likely they will get in fights and/or break up.

Other times, if a conversation goes well, the prompt "[Mii 1] and [Mii 2] just became best friends!" may appear, but if the two are already best friends, it can say "[Mii 1] and [Mii 2] just became friends."

When Miis go on vacations together via the travel ticket, their status will go up by one or two levels automatically.

There are 5 categories of statuses, each color saying something different about the relationship; they are Friends/Family/Siblings, Best Friend, Sweetheart, Spouse, and Ex-Sweethearts/Ex-Spouses.

Trivia

 • It's possible relationship levels will increase or decrease offscreen while the game isn't turned on.
 • It could be possible that when a breakup happens, the Mii that made the request to breakup is relationship level is more likely to go down, and the other Miis relationship level is more likely to rise, however this may not be true, and it's just random.
